Feline Neurological Screening Combo Ⅲ:

Bartonella henselae:
A Gram-negative bacterium transmitted via cat scratches or bites, causing cat-scratch disease (CSD) with symptoms like lymphadenopathy; rarely associated with neurological manifestations (e.g., encephalitis, radiculitis) in cats and humans.

Toxoplasma gondii:
An obligate intracellular protozoan parasite with cats as definitive hosts, transmitted through oocyst ingestion; can cause toxoplasmosis, leading to severe neurologic disorders (e.g., encephalitis, myelitis) in immunocompromised hosts.

Feline Infectious Peritonitis Virus (FIPV):
A coronavirus variant causing feline infectious peritonitis, with a dry form that may invade the central nervous system (CNS), resulting in neurological deficits like ataxia, tremors, and seizures.

Clinical Applications

  • Differential Diagnosis of Acute Neurological Symptoms: When a cat exhibits acute neurological symptoms such as seizures, ataxia, or neck stiffness, the combined detection of these three pathogens can rapidly differentiate infectious causes (e.g., Toxoplasma, FIPV, Bartonella) from non-infectious etiologies (e.g., toxins, tumors, metabolic disorders).

  • Monitoring Immunosuppressed Cats: For immunosuppressed cats (e.g., FIV/FeLV-positive), regular screening helps identify opportunistic infections (e.g., toxoplasmosis) early, enabling timely intervention and preventing disease progression.

  • Prevention and Control of Zoonotic Diseases: If pet owners develop suspected zoonotic symptoms (e.g., neurologic manifestations associated with Bartonella-related cat scratch disease or toxoplasmosis), concurrent testing of pets can clarify the source of infection and guide household management.

Revolutionizing Canine Leptospirosis Detection with PCR
In the realm of veterinary medicine, few diseases demand as much attention as leptospirosis—a zoonotic bacterial infection that poses a significant threat to both dogs and humans. Endemic worldwide, this disease is transmitted through contact with urine-contaminated water or soil, often leading to severe kidney and liver damage, pulmonary hemorrhage, and even death. Early and accurate diagnosis is critical for effective treatment and preventing transmission. However, traditional diagnostic methods have long posed challenges—until now.
